Flashback Friday: we recently wrapped on the new opera "Stone Soup" with @fortworthopera which we performed using green screens. Interestingly, this wasn't my green screen debut. Flashback to 2011. Before pursuing opera, @alexkendallrobson and I formed the regional touring theatre company, @felttiptheatre. As part of the "National Broadband Network Geeks in Residence" exhibition with the @auscouncilarts , we commissioned a number of local playwrights to devise a piece of theatre that would use green screens and high-speed internet to digitally place actors in multiple locations across Australia side by side, live, in performance. Unfortunately, ill-timed power outages laid waste to the performance as planned, and instead, Alex and I gave a rendition of a semi-improvised piece we coined "Waiting for... a train", using chromakey technology to place us on a moving train. Art will persist.

Hello Friends! Here's a little "home brew" recording I put together for IFAC Handa Australian Singing Competition - ASC@Home! They have both a main prize and an AUDIENCE CHOICE award! If you have a minute and like what you hear, your vote would be greatly appreciated! Just follow this link:

So here is the final aria from the opera Die Schweigsame Frau by Richard Strauss, "Wie schön ist doch die Musik". Big thank you to Stephen Carey for his backing track!

It is always wonderful to make music with you, Chris!

Lovely sir!!!! Listened to and voted.

Beautiful, Chris. How did you record this? No headphones, so it isn’t the way we’re recording on SoundTrap or the way we did for the Community Choir, which was just mp3s.

Wow impressive. Next time sing it in Italian!!!💜

❤️

I love this!! So much talent!

Chris: That was wonderful!

You have a wonderful voice.

Well done, Chris. Keep singing! Ben

I have a MONUMENTAL announcement: Kuzco slept through the night last night and I had to wake HIM this morning!

But also... I've now been in the #usa for almost 2 years so people are asking what my plans are moving forward. This semester, I would have been in the first graduating class for the new Graduate Artist Certificate in Opera at @unt. I have had such a full and rewarding time here and have learnt so much. I have gotten exactly what I wanted out of my experience including continued technical and musical refinement, performance skills and opportunities, professional connections, and of course, a bunch of amazing new friends and colleagues.

The USA and UNT have been good to me. I have some really exciting professional engagements lined up in the future (Covid allowing) and still have more to learn and, I think, to give to the academic field of opera. So without further ado, I am #Excitedtoannounce that I have been accepted into the Doctor of Musical Arts (Vocal Performance) program here at UNT and will be sticking around for the duration. With everything that's going on in the world, I'm grateful to have something to look forward to: a whole lot of learning and performing, and making my sister (@xennajay) refer to me as Dr Curcuruto for posterity.

I have to admit that I agonised over sharing this clip. Opera singers, whilst rambunctious, are also highly-sensitive and, as with all artists, highly self-critical. Ultimately, this is a glimpse behind the curtain at an ambitious work-in-progress. I am so grateful to Fort Worth Opera for facilitating my association with the exceedingly talented, knowledgeable, and generous spirit that is Jennifer Rowley and for her genuinely caring guidance both in every coaching, and every interaction.

So, here we are working through the final moments of Alberich's curse (Bin ich nun frei) from Wagner's Das Rheingold!

I loved watching this Chris! I had no idea there was so much involved. Well done you! 👏

You both are phenomenal. You're very receptive to her feedback and she is so good at coaching you on the fine details to improve your already wonderful work!

Amazing Christopher! And lovely work by Jennifer Rowley. So pleased Wagner Society in NSW could help to facilitate this, and proud of our Pacific Opera alumnus!
